Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy (8 July 1949 – 2 September 2009), popularly known as YSR, was the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[3] He represented the Indian National Congress party. He was elected to the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Lok Sabha from the Kadapa constituency for four terms and to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for five terms from the Pulivendula constituency.[4] In 2003 he undertook a three month long paadayaatra, or walking tour, across several districts in Andhra Pradesh.[5] He led his party to victory in the next general and assembly elections held in 2004. On 2 September 2009 a helicopter carrying Reddy went missing in the Nallamala forest area. On the morning of 3 September 2009, media agencies reported that the helicopter had been found crashed on top of Rudrakonda Hill, 40 nautical miles from Kurnool. This was later confirmed by the Prime Minister's office and all five people aboard were pronounced dead at the scene
Early life
Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was born at Jammalamadugu Mission Hospital near Pulivendula, Andhra Pradesh to Y. S. Raja Reddy and Jayamma in a Christian family. His father Raja Reddy was converted from Reddy family to Christian religion. His schooling was in Bellary, where his father was a contractor for irrigation canal projects. He graduated with a degree in medical science from Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College (MRMC), Gulbarga University, Karnataka and completed his House Surgeonship at S.V. Medical College, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. He was the elected leader of the House Surgeon's Association at S.V. Medical College, Tirupati.
Career Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy practiced medicine for sometime in his native Kadapa District. The hospital his father built for him at Pulivendula is still running. His family also built and ran a degree college and a polytechnic college at Pulivendula which was later handed over to the Loyola Group of Educational Institutions. Another junior college at Simhadripuram, a small town in the vicinity of Pulivendula, is run by his family.
Political career
In 1978 he contested from pulivendula on Reddy-Congress Party and won the elections, Later he joined in Indira Congress.From 1980 to 1983 he was a minister holding important portfolios related to Rural Development, Medical Health and Education under T.Anjaiah Cabinet. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kadapa constituency four times and was elected to the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly six times from Pulivendula constituency. Reddy was the leader of the opposition in the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly for five years. As an MLA he was influential in obtaining water from the Tungabhadra River for the Pulivendula Branch Canal (PBC) and fought for projects like RTPP (Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant) at Muddanur and Proddatur Milk Foods and its ancillaries.
Paadayaatra
During mid-summer of 2003, he led a 1400 km long paadayaatra (journey on foot), covering some of the backward areas in the state to understand the ground realities and living conditions of the people there. As a novice in the legislature, Reddy rallied all the Congress MLAs from the Rayalaseema region and led an indefinite hunger strike demanding solution to the water crisis. He also led a paadayaatra from Lepakshi to Pothireddipadu in Kurnool district.
As Chief Minister
He was elected as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh by the Legislature party of the Indian National Congress after they later won 185 seats of the Legislative Assembly in the May 2004 elections. He has initiated a variety of programs that influence the Economy of Andhra Pradesh and for the benefit of the common people and farming community. Prominent among them are:
JalaYagnam – A large-scale program to construct more than 70 pending irrigation projects in the state to improve irrigation facilities to the farmers, with a targeted irrigation to 1.2 Crore acres of land.
Free power supply for farmers for 7 hours a day.
Rajiv Arogya Shree – A health insurance and emergency services scheme for rural masses where the government pays the entire price of any surgery up to 200,000 rupee and does not require people to pay any premium
Pavala Vaddi — a program that provides loans to people at 3% per year so as to encourage them to take up small scale businesses and entrepreneurship primarily targeted at rural women
Indiramma illu — a program for construction of houses for the rural masses by charging a small amount and the government the remaining amount
Rs 2/KG of rice scheme
Increase in the minimum support price for rice.
Reimbursement of full college fees for backward sections, reservations for minorities,
Apart from these schemes, his government stood as the role model in implementing the central governments flagship program – the NREGA The opposition parties led by TDP however allege corruption and favoritism in the implementation of some schemes.
His tenure also saw significant weakening of the violent extremist left-wing Naxalite movement that was rampant in the state when he assumed office in 2004[12]. The movement was so intense that the former chief minister Chandrababu naidu's car was blasted by them in Oct 2003.
Election 2009
Reddy's major campaign slogan for the 2009 election was "Development and the credibility". He was seeking a mandate on his performance in his previous tenure. He did not promise any new schemes before the election and only promised continuation and minor extensions to the on going schemes. The opposition parties had formed a 'Grand alliance' comprising of the major opposition party – the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the communist parties. The TDP had promised numerous freebies including free color televisions. There was also a new party floated by a popular film star called Chiranjeevi.
In the elections, Reddy's party (INC) surpassed the required majority in the assembly (148 seats) by winning 156 seats. It has also bagged 33 seats in parliament out of 42 seats. This was seen as a very big victory for Reddy since he was able to come to power for the second consecutive[clarification needed] against the odds of anti-incumbency and an almost unified opposition. He became the Congress party’s first chief minister since 1969, that is, in four decades, to be able to seek votes in his own name, and win.
Reddy was sworn in as the chief minister for the term of 2009–2014 on 20 May 2009. The ceremony was held in Hyderabad's Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium and attended by a crowd of around 20,000 people.
Controversies
Opposition parties allege corruption in the implementation of Reddy's programs as well as in various other actions of both Reddy and his family. In 2008, Telugu Desam Party leader N. Chandrababu Naidu accused Reddy and his family of illegally amassing income through their companies Sandur Power Company, Jagathi Publications and Bharathi Cement Corporation. He also alleged that Reddy's sons were involved in the Satyam scandal.Also, the allotment of 487 acres of land in March 2007 to Raghuram Cements, which had the son of Reddy as one of its directors, was criticized by the Telugu Desam Party. The surrender of more than 1600 acres by Reddy to the government in December 2006 was also criticized by the opposition parties who demanded resignation from his post. Naidu also called for Reddy's resignation after a 2007 Khammam police shooting resulted in eight deaths
YSR accepted holding Government and forest lands and returned 614 acres at Idupulapaya estate in Vempalli mandal to the government. Still, media reports said he could be tried under AP Land Reforms (Ceiling on Agricultural Holdings) Act, 1973 & Rules, 1974, AP Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act, 1977 and AP Forest Act, 1967.
Personal life and religious beliefs
Reddy was married to Vijaya Lakshmi.[22] They have a son, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, a politician,[23] and a daughter, Sharmila.[24] His younger brother Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy is also an INC politician.
Reddy's parents were devout Christians[25] and he was buried according to Christian rites.[26] He had also visited Bethlehem and other holy Christian cities in Israel twice.[23] Although Reddy was a third generation Christian, he is described as an "ardent devotee" of the Hindu deity Venkateswara. He regularly visited the central temple of the god at Tirupati.[27][28] But, his government was also entangled in many controversies involving the affairs of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, which included practicing of evangelism in Tirumala.[29]. Following these allegations, he had ordered a ban on evangelism and Christian missionary activities in Triumala and is considered a secular person
Death
Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's Bell 430 helicopter went missing on Wednesday, 2 September 2009 at 9:35 am. Begumpet and Shamshabad Air Traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft at 9:02 am while it was passing through the dense Nallamala forest area.[31] The Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, P. Ramakanth Reddy, said that inclement weather had forced the helicopter off-course.[32][33] Although the sparsely populated forest area is considered to be stronghold of the outlawed Naxal communist insurgents, the National Security Advisor of India ruled out the possibility of the Naxals bringing down the helicopter.
The state government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India launched one of the largest search and rescue operations in the history of the country. The state's security officials mentioned that bad weather was hindering the search and rescue efforts.The Home Ministry of India dispatched 5000 CRPF soldiers for the operation while the Defence Ministry of India ordered the Indian Air Force to comb the area using low altitude planes and the Sukhoi-30MKI equipped with thermal imaging system.In addition, police personnel from six districts were involved in the ground search. Andhra Pradesh's anti-Naxal forces were also deployed in the area, owing to their familiarity with the jungle terrain there. Local tribal residents from this part of the state assisted with the search mission. Patrol parties also combed the Krishna river for the remains of the helicopter.[39] ISRO's RISAT-2 satellite was also deployed to search the area,[40] but the 41 high-resolution images of the area were unable to trace the helicopter.
The wreckage of the helicopter was finally spotted by an IAF Dhruv helicopter more than 24 hours after contact was lost with Reddy's Bell 430 helicopter. The Indian Prime Minister's Office confirmed the helicopter's crash on the morning of 3 September and the death of all aboard, including Reddy, his special secretary P. Subrahmanyam, chief security officer A. S. C. Wesley, Group Captain S. K. Bhatia and Captain M. S. Reddy. The Director General of Police said that the bodies of Reddy and others were charred beyond recognition and had to be identified on the basis of clothing. The autopsy of all the bodies was carried out at Kurnool Medical College.
Reddy's body was buried on 4 September at Idupulapai in Kadapa district with full state honors in accordance with Christian rites

Mr. M Shashidhar Reddy
In Modern Politics
Mr. M Shashidhar Reddy is like an “Oasis in the desert” by way of maintaining clean record in public life by mixture of his conduct. He strongly believes that honesty and sincerity would enhance public credibility, which is an important component in public life. Besides this, Mr. Reddy is intelligent, highly articulate, disciplined and soft spoken.
Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy hails from a very illustrious political family, he is the younger son of the great leader and the man of the masses Dr. M. Channa Reddy who was twice Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Governor of five prime states of India, namely Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
After completing his B.A (English Honors) at the prestigious St. Stephens College, Delhi in 1967. As an ICAR “Merit Scholar” he has graduated from A.P Agricultural University in 1971. Later, he completed Master’s Degree in Agronomy with distinction from Kansas State University, U.S.A in 1973.
As a student, Mr. Shashidhar Reddy was actively involved at school and university level. He served as President Indian Association at Kansas State University in 1972.
Subsequently, Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy had started taking interest in political activities, both at State level and National level.
During 1967’s Telangana Agitation he was imprisoned in 1970
He has actively participated in all Election campaigns since 1978 in support of the Congress Party He has served in the Congress Party in the following different positions

Sanathnagar
Since 1989 onwards Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy has actively involved by way of taking interest in the development of Sanathnagar constituency. Ever since his father Late Dr. M. Channa Reddy had contested from this constituency, Mr. M Shashidhar Reddy was taking the entire responsibility of the Election campaign and the development activity. Hence, he is well acquainted with the problems of the constituency. In this context, a leading magazine – “The illustrated weekly “ – complimented that; “ Mr. Shashidhar Reddy is known for his brilliance during his election campaign for his father”.
On appointment of Dr. M Channa Reddy as governor of Rajasthan in 1992, Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy got elected with an impressive majority in 1992 bye-election from Sanathnagar constituency. It is noteworthy to recall that Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy was the only candidate who was successfully elected from congress party among three candidates contested in the bye-election.
In 1993, Mr. Reddy was appointed as Minister for Environment, Pollution Control, Science and Technology in the government of Andhra Pradesh.
As a minister he left an indelible mark as an outstanding administrator. Subsequently he was elected as an MLA from Sanathnagar in the 1994 General Elections. Again, he was re-elected in 2004.

Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy was nominated as Convener, National level Task Force on Naxal violence by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, President A.I.C.C (2004-2005) to make an in depth study of the naxalite problem in the country. The study report was considered highly valuable in tackling the Naxal insurgency.
Mr. Shashidhar Reddy was nominated as a member of the newly constituted National disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in 2005 for a period of 5 years with a status of a Minister of State (MoS); with Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. It is gratifying to note that for the first time that an MLA from any state has been nominated to a position at the National Level with the status of a Central Minister. As a member of the NDMA Mr.Reddy is entrusted with the subjects like cyclones, urban flooding, insurance/ risk transfer and micro finance. Further, he is also entrusted with the responsibility of formulating suitable guidelines for the management of cyclones and urban flooding.
Godavari Waters
Mr. Shashidhar Reddy has launched a massive awareness campaign for “Utilization of Godavari Waters and Development of Telangana”. Under the auspices of the Dr. M Channa Reddy memorial trust, several conventions, seminars and a round table meeting of all political parties, intellectuals and NGO’s were organized to create public consensus.
International (Visits Abroad)
On the invitation of Fredrich Nauman Foundation of Germany Mr. M Shashidhar Reddy has participated in an International Training Seminar on “Political Strategies” at Sintra, Portugal (1994).
Attended second UN commission on “Sustainable Development”, at New York as a member of the official delegation headed by the Mr. Kamal Nath, Union Minister for environment (1994).
Studied political trends during the historic election of Nelson Mandela, as the first President of South Africa.

Mr. M Shashidhar Reddy is like an “Oasis in the desert” by way of maintaining clean record in public life by mixture of his conduct. He strongly believes that honesty and sincerity would enhance public credibility, which is an important component in public life. Besides this, Mr. Reddy is intelligent, highly articulate, disciplined and soft spoken.
Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy hails from a very illustrious political family, he is the younger son of the great leader and the man of the masses Dr. M. Channa Reddy who was twice Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Governor of five prime states of India, namely Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
After completing his B.A (English Honors) at the prestigious St. Stephens College, Delhi in 1967. As an ICAR “Merit Scholar” he has graduated from A.P Agricultural University in 1971. Later, he completed Master’s Degree in Agronomy with distinction from Kansas State University, U.S.A in 1973.
As a student, Mr. Shashidhar Reddy was actively involved at school and university level. He served as President Indian Association at Kansas State University in 1972.
Subsequently, Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy had started taking interest in political activities, both at State level and National level.
During 1967’s Telangana Agitation he was imprisoned in 1970
He has actively participated in all Election campaigns since 1978 in support of the Congress Party He has served in the Congress Party in the following different positions

(ii) General Secretary, A.P.C.C (1995-1997)
(iii) Member, A.I.C.C (1999 onwards)

Since 1989 onwards Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy has actively involved by way of taking interest in the development of Sanathnagar constituency. Ever since his father Late Dr. M. Channa Reddy had contested from this constituency, Mr. M Shashidhar Reddy was taking the entire responsibility of the Election campaign and the development activity. Hence, he is well acquainted with the problems of the constituency. In this context, a leading magazine – “The illustrated weekly “ – complimented that; “ Mr. Shashidhar Reddy is known for his brilliance during his election campaign for his father”.
On appointment of Dr. M Channa Reddy as governor of Rajasthan in 1992, Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy got elected with an impressive majority in 1992 bye-election from Sanathnagar constituency. It is noteworthy to recall that Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy was the only candidate who was successfully elected from congress party among three candidates contested in the bye-election.
In 1993, Mr. Reddy was appointed as Minister for Environment, Pollution Control, Science and Technology in the government of Andhra Pradesh.
As a minister he left an indelible mark as an outstanding administrator. Subsequently he was elected as an MLA from Sanathnagar in the 1994 General Elections. Again, he was re-elected in 2004.

Issues
Apart from constituency issues concerning the people of Sanathnagar, Marri Shashidhar Reddy has been vigorously fighting to solve the drinking water problem in the city.
He has set up a forum for the Utilization of Godavari Waters in 1996 with the sole objective of pressurizing the government into taking adequate steps towards the utilization of Godavari waters to solve water problem.
During 1989 when Congress came to power the-then Chief Minister Mr. Marri Channa Reddy appointed M/S. Water and Power Consultancy Services Ltd. (W.A.P.C.O.S) in January 1990 to propose the permanent solutions for the problems of shortage of drinking water. After an in-depth study of the problem and keeping in view about the growth of population in next 25 years they decided on supply of 16.5 TMC water scheme to the city. In that, the committee has proposed supply of 5.5 TMC water from Krishna and 11 TMC water from Godavari in March 1990.
As soon as the report of the proposal was received the Government has issued a Government Order (G.O. Ms.No.199 dt.4-5-1990) stating that 5.5 TMC of Krishna Water (Nagarjuna Sagar) should be supplied. After the approval from Central Government and also Planning Commission about this the then Chief Minister Sri Kotla Vijaybhaskar Reddy laid a foundation stone. With the estimation cost of 640 Crores and the funds from World Bank it was supposed to be completed by the year 2000. The project is long pending completion.
He has conducted several seminars and meetings to put pressure on the Government to bring drinking water to Hyderabad. He was accurate in telling people of Hyderabad that the Telugu Desam Government will not be able to bring Krishna waters by the promised date of March 1st 2004. He also pointed out that the work actually began only after elctions were announced, early this year!

Urdu medium students are suffering a major problem after completing SSC because they have Urdu medium colleges in Nampally .Malley Pally Himayath Nagar Malakpet Hussaini Alam arears therefore so many girls are drop the higher education and boys joins the English medium but they fails to complete the inter therefore they also drop the education after inter therefore education rate descrease in the minority community and urdu medium students………………………..
3.Therefore we request to you to take necessary steps to provide a Junior College or Degree College for the Urdu medium Student in the sanath nagar constituency
